ZAL Port participates in the Environment Day with an action to conserve the Llobregat delta together with the Port Community

A total of 21 companies have joined this volunteer day, promoted by the Environment department of the Governing Council of the Port Community

On the occasion of the celebration, next Sunday, 5th of June of the World Environment Day, the Port Community of Barcelona organizes a voluntary initiative for the conservation of the Can Camins pine forest next Friday June 3, which will consist of the removal of invasive exotic vegetation, reinforcing the commitment to the environment and sustainable development contributing to the preservation of the natural area of the Llobregat delta.

A total of 21 companies, several distinguished with the EMAS certification and others with ISO 14001, distinctions of which the ZAL Port has, as well as the Port Authority, have adhered to this initiative, which has been promoted by the group Environment work of the Governing Council of the Port Community.

The affiliated companies are: APM TERMINALS BARCELONA, AUTOTERMINAL, BUNGE, CARGILL, CILSA (managing entity of the ZAL Port), CLH (EXOLUM), DECAL, TRADEBE PORT BARCELONA (ECOIMSA), ENAGÁS, ERGRANSA, HUTCHISON PORTS BEST, MB92 BARCELONA, MARINA PORT VELL, PORTCEMEN, RELISA, TEPSA, TERMINAL PORT NOU, TMA, TRADEBE PORT SERVICES, TRANSCOMA i VOPAK TERQUIMSA.

The initiative will be coordinated and directed by the technicians of the Consortium for the Protection and Management of the Natural Areas of the Delta del Llobregat, and will consist of the removal and subsequent elimination in the composting plant of exotic herbaceous vegetation that coexists with the native vegetation of the Pineda de Can Camins, one of the last well-preserved coastal pine forests remaining in Catalonia. In this way, the action aims to contribute to the conservation of this valuable habitat integrated into the Natural Areas of the Llobregat delta.

This is the second year that a shared initiative has been carried out between the different organizations of the Port Community, after last year’s initiative that consisted of simultaneous awareness-raising actions carried out by all the companies in the Environment working group aimed at their workers. . Which demonstrates the vocation of the continuity of this celebration of World Environment Day with the aim of disseminating environmental education activities.

This celebration of World Environment Day shows that both, the Port of Barcelona and its Port Community are making a firm commitment to environmental sustainability with clear objects, “an action in which the involvement of all companies and operators that carry out their activity within the port area.”
