ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is an international standard that establishes the requirements for an environmental management system (EMS). It was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) with the aim of helping organizations minimize their environmental impact and comply with applicable environmental regulations.

Since 2016, ZAL Port has implemented and certified the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. This strategic decision reflects the active commitment to the climate crisis and demonstrates the determination to annually evaluate the results achieved and the areas for improvement. With this certification, ZAL Port seeks not only to comply with international standards, but also to effectively contribute to the preservation of the environment and long-term sustainability.

EMAS REGISTRATION

EMAS REGISTRATION (ECO MANAGEMENT AUDIT SCHEME)

The EMAS Register (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme)  is the Community Regulation for Eco-Management and Eco-Audit, a tool developed by the European Union that recognises those organisations that have implemented an EMS (Environmental Management System) and have made a commitment to continuous improvement, verified by independent audits, and promotes transparency in the disclosure of annual environmental information.

Since 2016, ZAL Port has maintained the registry. The decision to implement the Community Eco-management and Eco-audit System after having implemented and certified the ISO 14001 environmental management system was an act of transparency and information about its environmental performance to all interest groups.

The disclosure of the EMAS Environmental Declaration, once validated by a certification body, reflects the authenticity of the data submitted. This action demonstrates the willingness to openly and truthfully share information about our environmental practices.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

ISO 50001

ISO 50001 is an international standard that establishes the requirements for the implementation of an Energy Management System (EMS). This standard aims to help organizations improve their energy performance, reduce costs and decrease their environmental impact associated with energy use.

By implementing and certifying the Energy Management System based on ISO 50001 in 2017, ZAL Port is able to establish processes and practices aimed at improving energy efficiency, identifying opportunities for reducing energy consumption, and meeting specific objectives and goals related to Sustainable Development Goal No. 7 “accessible and clean energy.”

LEED CERTIFICATION

LEADERSHIP IN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (LEED) is part of the business strategy. It is a classification system for green and healthy buildings and its certificate is internationally recognized.

Since 2018, the Board of Directors of ZAL Port decided to build the warehouses under LEED standards. Assuming this commitment to the construction of its warehouses means investing in materials and technologies that minimize environmental impact and promote energy efficiency.

The LEED certification not only supports ZAL Port‘s commitment to sustainability, but also demonstrates the interest in creating healthier and more efficient work environments.
