SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY SA 8000

The SA 8000 standard is an international standard developed by Social Accountability International (SAI), which addresses issues such as child labor, forced labor, occupational health and safety, freedom of association and collective bargaining, discrimination and practices disciplinary. The standard is based on international human and labor rights regulations, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and ILO (International Labor Organization) conventions, among others.

By opting for SA 8000 certification in 2023, ZAL Port recognizes the crucial importance of its suppliers as integral components of its value chain. This decision reflects the company’s commitment not only to its own employees, but also to those who are part of its supplier network.

SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY SYSTEM - ISO 45001

ISO 45001 is an international standard that establishes the requirements for the implementation of an occupational health and safety (OHS) management system. ZAL Port has implemented and certified the ISO 45001 OSH system since 2020.

The adoption of the ISO 45001 OSH system reflects ZAL Port‘s commitment to safety and health in the workplace. This approach has the main objective of maintaining a process of continuous improvement in safety and health standards, comprehensively considering all people who participate, either directly or indirectly, in the company’s various activities.

The ISO 45001 certification not only validates ZAL Port‘s compliance with the internationally established requirements in terms of safety and health, but also responds to “SDG 3: Good health and well-being”.

Some of the benefits for organizations when implementing the occupational health and safety management system in accordance with ISO 45001 are:

SOCIAL COMMITMENT

Within ZAL Port‘s Corporate Social Responsibility policy and as part of its contribution to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of ending poverty, the transfer of ships through social rental to various foundations has been implemented. This initiative seeks to support organizations committed to fighting poverty and promoting sustainable development.

Grup CARES, a special work centre promoted and chaired by CILSA, integrates people with disabilities and social exclusion through the logistics activities it carries out from its facilities in the ZAL Port.

Banc dels aliments

El Banco dels Aliments de Barcelona (BdA)) is an independent, apolitical, non-denominational and non-profit foundation whose main objectives are to prevent waste by recovering surplus food fit for human consumption and to fight food poverty by delivering it to people in precarious situations in our environment. We provide them with a 1,238 m² warehouse and 324 m² of office space with social rent.

The Fundació Fundesplai is developing an initiative aimed at young people between 18 and 29 years old who are unemployed, through which they discover and improve their talent by empowering and strengthening their abilities. We collaborate with the ZAL Port with a program that allows young people to enter the world of work.

Forma’t al Port

The aim is to bring the Port of Barcelona and its port community closer to students of higher education courses (CFGS) in Transport and Logistics and International Trade. It provides today’s students, future professionals, with knowledge of the professions in the logistics sector and especially maritime activity and intermodal transport.
