Today, Wednesday, February 12, the AMB and the managing company CILSA presented the new metropolitan bus shelters at the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL Port) of the Port of Barcelona. Specifically, 11 old bus shelters have been replaced by the new design, intellectual property of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), in order to standardize the stops and offer the metropolis the quality and service standards of the new urban furniture.
The bus service at ZAL Port is owned by the AMB, and the metropolitan body provides it through its Metropolitan Bus service. Specifically, it is covered by lines 88, 89, and PR4.
The event was attended by the Director of Mobility, Transport and Sustainability of the AMB, Joan Maria Bigas, and the General Manager of CILSA, Jordi Guerrero.
The metropolitan bus shelter model, designed by the AMB, features technological, functional, safety, and aesthetic improvements compared to the previous one.
The main improvements of these bus shelters compared to the previous model are:
- Improved static information: it has more space for information (maps, routes, schedules…), which can also be easily changed if there are service modifications.
- More comfort and improved accessibility: with no obstacles in the front area, it offers easier access for everyone, and complies with accessibility regulations.
- More sustainable: it has been manufactured with 95% recycled materials or second-life materials, and with 100% recyclable materials. In addition, the new lighting saves 83% of electricity consumption compared to previous models.
This new bus shelter model is being progressively implemented in the Barcelona metropolis. Specifically, 200 have already been installed under the current contract, and 150 more will be progressively installed between 2025 and 2027. The AMB continues to improve the Metropolitan Bus service, one of the city’s key transport systems.
ZAL Port prioritizes the improvement of transport services, and the implementation of the new bus shelters aligns with this goal.
