The global logistics provider will handle regional logistics operations on behalf of a major customer in the international retail sector at the ZAL Port of Barcelona.
Global logistics provider Kuehne + Nagel and CILSA (Centro Intermodal de Logística, S.A.), the company that runs the ZAL Port of Barcelona, have signed an agreement for the lease of an 11,400 m sqm industrial unit in the Port of Barcelona’s Logistics Activities Area (ZAL).
This operation allows Kuehne + Nagel to meet the logistics and distribution needs of one of its large multinational retail customers. The new unit was designed and built following the sustainability and efficiency criteria that have made the ZAL an international benchmark among port logistics areas. The operation was guided by property consultant Aguirre Newman.
The new building, located in the ZAL Prat, has 19 loading bays, two doors allowing truck access by a ramp and four at street level and is 11 metres high. In addition to providing fast and reliable operational logistics, it has advanced technological systems and offers the best location for the end customer, whose operations is maritime-based and involves complete multimodal services. Kuehne + Nagel, one of the world’s leading logistics providers, has been present at the ZAL Port of Barcelona since 1995 with one industrial unit.
Flexible and efficient solutions for ZAL’s clients
Sixte Cambra, President of the Port of Barcelona and of CILSA, stressed that “the ZAL has become one of the pillars that position the Port of Barcelona as a Euro-Mediterranean logistics hub. We are working to offer solutions that respond to our customers’ needs with an efficient and high-quality service, and the fact that a large international logistics operator like Kuehne + Nagel is reaffirming its commitment to the ZAL indicates that the Barcelona Port Community is on the right track”.
Alfonso Martínez, CILSA general manager, noted that “this type of agreements are the result of the efforts made over the last three years to achieve customer loyalty, accompanying our customers according to their needs and offering flexible and efficient solutions that enable them to undertake new investment projects while minimising their operational risk. Kuehne + Nagel generates significant maritime traffic, therefore this operation fits perfectly into the rationale of the ZAL”.
Miguel Ambielle, Managing Director of Kuehne + Nagel Spain, says, “I am very pleased about the dynamic growth of the Spanish organization. Kuehne + Nagel started operations in Spain in 1966 and the extension of our premises in the Port of Barcelona’s Logistics Activities Area (ZAL) underlines our commitment to expand our logistics infrastructure in the Spanish market and to provide customer-oriented supply chain solutions”.
