The two organizations have renewed the collaboration agreement by which CILSA, the managing entity of the ZAL Port, makes 1,200 m² of storage available to the Banc dels Aliments Foundation, free of charge, which together with another stable warehouse of 1,200 m² of the that the entity also has in the ZAL Port, add up to a total of 2,400 m2.
The ZAL Port, in its Corporate Social Responsibility policy and as a contribution to achieving the end of poverty, one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) defined by the United Nations, has donated free of charge to the Fundació Banc dels Aliments de Barcelona, a new 1,200 m² warehouse in the ZAL Port – BCN that has a useful height of 10.5 meters, 5 loading docks and 1 ramp.
The president of the Fundació Banc dels Aliments, Roser Brutau i Basté and the general director of the ZAL Port, Alfonso Martinez García, have renewed the transfer agreement in the temporary storage modality.
The two organizations have collaborated since 2013, the year in which CILSA, the managing entity of the ZAL Port, gave the Fundació Banc dels Aliments 8,088 m² free of charge for the logistics management of the famous Christmas campaign, the Great Recapte. A transfer that was repeated in 2014 with 7,211 m², in 2015 with 3,045 m², in 2017 and 2018 with 1,904 m² and that in 2021 will be resumed with a warehouse of 1,200 m².
Beyond these temporary warehouses, since 2016, the Fundació Banc dels Aliments permanently has a 1,200 m² warehouse thanks to an EU subsidy. In short, ZAL Port makes a total of 2,400 m² of logistics warehouses available to this entity in a reference location.
Since the date of the first agreement, the ZAL Port facilities have been used both for the management of food from the Great Recapte campaign and for the management of products from different collection points in Catalonia and from European Union funds. a long the whole year. In 2017, for example, a total of 2,154,000 kilos of food from a total of 6,373 boxes were classified in the context of the Great Recapte. On the other hand, the food managed from the European Union in the respective warehouses transferred has been between 1,400,000 kg per year in the beginning and up to 4,700,000 kg per year in this last period.
The location of the ZAL Port is excellent for the operations of the Fundació Banc dels Aliments due to its proximity to the city of Barcelona, where the critical mass of those most in need is concentrated and access to the platform facilitates the management of volunteers and companies. allowing great agility for the entry of trucks.
Despite the high occupation of logistics land that has complicated CILSA’s commitment to the entity, ZAL Port wanted to renew this collaboration to support the fight against hunger in our city. This collaboration is integrated into the ZAL Port strategy aimed at social commitment, links with the territory and people. The creation of the Cares Foundation, an entity that fights for the employment of people with functional diversity through the outsourcing of logistical and production processes, is a clear example of this strategy.
CILSA applies a management model that prioritizes services and concern for the environment, favoring work-life balance and sustainability. A social commitment, backed by its more than 100 established companies and 8,000 direct workers, that makes a difference.
